  Choosing the right self storage facilities for you...
Domestic Storage Unit  

Self-storage facilities offer a wide variety of unit sizes and shapes. Generally, they are rented in 5-foot increments.

Most facilities offer the following unit sizes; however, many will have other increments or larger units for great options:

  • 25 sq. ft.
  • 30 sq. ft
  • 100 sq. ft
  • 150 sq. ft
  • 200 sq. f
Business Storage Unit   Here a simple chart for determining what size is most appropriate for your storage requirements:
  • Two-room flat 5 x 5 to 5 x 10
  • 1,200 square foot home 5 x 10
  • 1,600 square foot home 10 x 10
  • 2,000 square foot home 10 x 15
  • 2,500 square foot home 10 x 20
An alternative way of working how much space you need. We also advise self-storage clients that you can get an idea of the size of storage you will need from the size of van you are using. For example:
  • A 15-foot van full to the top will usually fit into a 10x10 unit, because the units are generally taller and wider than the vans. The unit will, however, be full to the top.

  • A 24-foot van should fit into a 10x20 . And we tell customers "a 5x5 is similar to a coat cupboard, a 5x10 a walk-in cupboard."

  • A 1,200 square-foot home should fit into 10x20 or 10x25, but if there are only a few appliances and a minimal amount of large items, the renter may get away with a smaller storage space. Most flats will fit into a 10x10 or 10x25, whereas a house will need a 10x20 or 10x25.
Another thing you can do is to picture your home and how you could stack your items. How big is your garage? Can you drive a car into or do you have a lot of items such as tools that aren't stackable?
